Certification

Hi guys,

my son is a Cabler/fibre optic splicer by trade in the uk.

He been in the area for the past 12 years but doesn’t have any certification just on job training and learning by working.

my question is if he attends a city n guilds course to get certified for internal/external cabling would this be adequate to apply for a 189 visa?

he has been told without certification his best bet is a Employer sponsorship visa, which he is trying to get a sponsor but it is proving a bit fruitless at the moment.
TIA

Re: Certification

Neither 342412 TELECOMMUNICATIONS CABLE JOINTER or perhaps 342411 Cabler (Data and Telecommunications), which is what he seems to be, are on the skills list for the 189.

Even if the occupation was available, TRA requires a qualification to give a positive skills assessment, so any permanent visa, sponsored or not, would be out without a qualification. 90 points is the current minimum invite level for the 189.

Re: Certification

thanks for your reply
Sorry I meant the 190 visa for the Cabler, so if he did a intense 4 day course and got his certificate would it count when he applies for the visa As he has been doing The job for many years.

Re: Certification

He is going to need the assistance of an agent. There are a number of issues. For example, he may be able to pass a skills assessment based on recognition of his experience known as RPL. But he may not. His experience might count towards points, but it may not as some occupations only count time after the qualification, so if he gained the qualifications now, and the skills assessment requires three years post qualification experience, he would need to work another three years.

Also, at the moment, the 190 is effectively closed as the federal government normally allocate places to states on July 1 but this year haven’t and it is unclear when they will or what changes might be made
