My application only went off in Feb 03 and it took over a month for them to take their money. People who sent it off in March where acknowledged within a week, Jan 03 took longer than February and March.
News on www.gomatilda.co.uk say that they expect to flurry of activity as Adelaide are far behind on their statistics and they have just recruited more people.
I guess it is luck if it is processed quickly as there doesn't seem to be a system as such and people just grab a handful of applications from a pile and process those. Does make you wander what you paid over £650 for! (I got a bad exchange rate and it cost £670).

There have been a number of delays in issuing acknowledgements out of
Adelaide, especially in January. DIMIA have admitted there has been a
problem, and are committed to issuing acknowledgements within a short
time after receipt.

We applied in Nov 2002 and still no acknowledgement. We have given up on receiving it now. We know we are being dealt with as we have been given a reference to send the marriage certificate to.
