Default Can you apply for an Australian Study visa from a Country other than your own?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to
apply for an Australian Students Visa from a country other than your
own? Since the new rule change Britsh Citizens (Assessment level 2)
cannot apply for a student visa on-shore in Australia, but I was
wondering whether it is possible to apply for an Oz student visa thru
an Australian Embassy in the USA or in New Zealand or whether I would
have to do it from my home country. If it is not possible to apply
for a visa in a country apart from my own (UK), does anyone know if it
is possible to send in all the required info and my passport to the UK
while I am abroad and get it sent back to a family member in the UK
who can post it back to me in the country I am travelling thru? (I
know I will be without my passport for that time, but hopefully if the
process doesn't take too long, this will be ok? {will it matter if I
have an ingoing stamp to the US or NZ and no outgoing stamp?})

Does anyone know how long the student visa process takes in the UK if
sent via post?

If anyone can give me advice I would be grateful. Thanx :-)

I believe you can apply from any country (except Australia).

Default Processing time

Hi sara,

I'm in the process of applying fora student visa from the UK too. I'm starting to panic a bit now because I need to get a chest x-ray and a medical (which has a 2 week wait) but I also need my passport for a trip to Rome in December! It seemed like I had plenty of time and now, suddenly I don't seem to have enough.
Anyway, as far as I am aware the processing time is about 4 weeks in London - hope it doesn't increase.
I think you can still apply for a student visa in Oz but you have to have exceptional reasons to do so. You can also apply online in Australia if you are in assessment level 1 or 2 - I'm not sure though whether this is for a further student visa or an initial one.

Hope this helps

Cheers, Lisa

Thanks everyone for your help. I am worried about what may happen if
I go to New Zealand or into Australia and apply but my circumstances
aren't considered exceptional. Do you think that because I'm
travelling overseas and don't wish to have the extra costs of coming
back to the UK to organise my visa will be considered exceptional
circumstances? Who can I contact to find this out as I can't seem to
find any e-mail addresses for the Australian Embassy in the UK or NZ.

Also, if I get my medical examination and x-ray done before I leave
top go travelling in Feb, will it still be valid if I make my
application in NZ or OZ in July/August?

Thanks,

Sara

You can apply in New Zealand if you like (you don't seriously think
Australia and NZ are the same country ... ?) You don't have to go
back to the UK.

You just can't apply onshore in Australia and expect to be accepted.
