We are going on student visa. My OH wants to look for a job whilst there if he finds one willing to sponsor on 457 can he apply whilst in Aus?

A lot of the companies that he has contacted say they are interested in CV but have said contact when he is in Aus?

Anyone know the answer to this as i have looked on Immi and cant find answer, or anyone done this?

a 457 can be granted onshore but it would depend on the visa conditions of your current visa I assume.

It will be fine to lodge a 457 onshore (providing there is a not no further stay condition on the student visa) and infact you can be included on the 457 visa which will enable you to still study/work without the restricitions of a student visa.

Thanks for the info, we always have the student visa as poss route to pr but nice to know that if OH gets a good sponsored job offer he may be able to apply for457 and be able to work the extra hours. As much as he is looking forward to having some relaxing time i think he will struggle for 2 years with no career.
