Can I travel with a single ticket on a non-award 575 student visa?
Just asking on behalf of my nephew. He is going over at the end of this month and has a 7 month visa to study at Monash university. Do you also know whether he could extend his visa, because he is thinking about working for a few months before he returns to the UK to finish off his degree.
Thanks guys, really appreciate it!

Hi. he should be fine on a one-way ticket as long as he has proof of funds to buy a return ticket (a bank statement should do the trick). In order to work he will need to check the validity of his visa (i.e. if his course finishes on 20/11/2008 and his visa is valid til 20/01/2009, he will be able to work full-time on that visa) otherwise he will need another type of visa e.g. working holiday visa.

Just to be clear, when he's in session (when the course is on and he's at Uni) he can only work 20 hours a week - anymore and he risks having his visa cancelled. Once the course is finished (out of session) he can work full time for the validity period of his visa.
