Calling any visa experts !!

Hi there,
I keep on coming back to this visa issue every few months by searching in vain on the net for a solution. Maybe someone on here will be able to help..

The situation is me/OH/kids are all NZ citizens (although UK born and bred) so would be able to enter Australia on the SCV (subclass 444) if we were to move ( i understand the restrictions on this visa). My problem is my parents. They are in their 80s and i wouldn't want to leave them in the UK. They are happy to move to Oz with us but i can't find a visa for them as it seems retirement visas have been removed. We're not "eligible" new zealand citizens so can't sponsor them in if we were to move. My mums dad was an Australian citizen but via retiremetn from the UK so again i don't think that helps in any way.

Are there any other options?

Any help much appreciated ;)

Well, you could apply for a permanent residence visa to Australia if eligible. Though, it would take about a year and then you would need to be settled in Australia for two years before being able to sponsor

But, you need to be aware there are no quick options. Even if you were already a permanent resident and launched a parent visa now, it would be about 8 years to be granted. Do you think by then they are likely to be able to pass medicals?

Thanks for your response. We're too old (just) to be able to apply for a permanent residency visa unfortunately :(. Its as i thought re the retirement visa but i was hoping there might be some investment or other visa that might be suitable that i hadn't spotted. We'll have to hope some of the visa/criteria change. Thanks

There are investment visas, but these are often very complex and generally have age restrictions as well. You may want to speak to a registered migration agent to discuss any options available

There are possible exemptions in your situation, but unfortunately, if you are yet to make the move, they may not still be available by the time you are eligible. Can you not bring your parents to NZ?

Yes we could although thats not without its complications either! Australia is the preferred option for everyone - my husbands cousins are there, house affordability, jobs etc all much better. My mum isn't in the best of health (the reason we returned from NZ) and I'm sort of resigned to the fact that i'll have to wait until my mum is no longer with us for us to move - what a morbid thought!!

In which case, they probably wouldn’t pass the medical anyway

There are certain visa's where being a 444 visa holder exempts you from certain criteria such as age, skills assessment etc. Here is one such example: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visa...y-stream#HowTo

Good luck!
