We are torn between the two, love the idea of warmth all year round, but would we find it too much in reality. Would the culture shock between UK and Brissie be too much and should we go to Melbourne instead, where it has more 'seasons'? Anyone been out there (we haven't) that can advise would be great!!

Why don't you look in the lifestyle and culture forum and do a search? I have seen this question asked many times and there has been loads of info given.
Personally, we are hoping to go to Melbourne as my husbands in IT and it seems there are many more jobs there than Brissy. Even more in Sydney, but it is more expensive. Also, my family couldn't cope with the constant heat and humidity in Brisbane. Although people slag of the weather in Melbourne, I have heard it's really nice, hot summers and cold winters, but not as cold as here.

Am I the only one who's noticed that the discovery of the accelerating
expansion of the universe coincides with the discovery that more than half
of email, and rising, is now spam?

Hello there:
I posted a similar message and still swinging now....
Dreamer, about your concern on the weather, let me share with you my
experience. I am Chinese residing in Borneo. You would think I am
used to hot and humid climate. But I've been to Queensland twice:
once in September 1997 (Bribane and Gold Coast), last in July
2003(Brisbane and Hervey Bay). Although neither time were summer, I
really felt the heat during my two visits. (Night was ok) I first
thought that I wasnt exposed enough to the sun in my country, since I
stay in the office most of the time. But later I was told the sunlight
IS stronger b'cos of the ozone layer or something like that. Maybe I
am still ok compared to you (I have darker/thicker skin. GRIN). But
for all the caucasians, I understand that they have to apply sun
screen when out. Strangely some of the Brisbanians dont seem to agree
with my notion on the weather. If some one can tell me more about the
sun/ozone layer there I'd be glad.
As for Melbourne, I went there three times (Sep 97, Jul 03, Dec 03/Jan
04), I really love it there: the trams, the city, the arts and
culture, the multi-cultural society, the suburbs, and of course the
cooler weather. The other thing I was told but unable to substantiate
is that they said since it's a bigger city, it has more job
opportunity.
Perhaps I am being biased b'cos I spent more days in Melbourne,
visited more places, and have many friends in Melbourne who showed me
around......
Here are some sites about Melbourne/Victoria:
http://www.theage.com.au/
http://groups.msn.com/Australiaherewecome
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/newcomersnetwork/
http://www.australia-migration.com/p...d_I_settle/192
The other option is head straight to the region/suburb that you might
be interested, examples:

http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/index.asp?flash=yes
http://www.knox.vic.gov.au/content.cfm?topicID=245
http://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/intro.htm
Haha, sorry I may not seem to be too helpful, giving you heaps of
websites but not really an answer. (I have more websites stored in my
office if you want, GRIN). Anyway, do surf and let us know...
Cheers,
Stella

Brisbane is warmer than Melbourne - but does have a distinct 'cool' season.
For weather/climate information investigate the Australian Bureau of
Meteorology site. It is packed with information - just follow the prompts.
