Default Brisbane -April 2003-who is going?

Hi

Just wondering who plans on heading to Brisbane in the new future and
where are you intending on settling?

This is our destination and hopefully we will get the visa in time as
we would like to be there by April 2003. High hopes I know BUT......

Thanks again
Jenny

Hi Jenny,

We’re heading for Brisbane on the 30th January, staying with family for the first few weeks in Wellington Point. We then intend to rent somewhere around the same area, then properly look for a property to buy later in the year.

We are heading Brisbane way - but hopefully North - Sunshine Coast area. We are hoping to validate in the school summer hols and then return to Oz to settle before Xmas 2003.
Hopefully we will validate on our first trip - look at finding jobs (teaching)- getting an idea of the different areas. Promise to report back with our findings.

HI!
We have just been called for medicals and hope to be in Brisbane by April 2003, all going well.

We are either heading for the Bayside suburbs or Bribie Island, like both but can't decide which! Ideally, we'd like to buy a plot of land and build, as we want a 2 storey house and most seem to be lowset. We applied Aug 2001 and so raring to get out there now!

Hi Donna

We applied MArch 2002. Chose Brisbane , as we prefer the Hot climate.
We have two young children and they also love the sun and water life.
Work , not too sure if hubby will get in his trade (graphic
prepress)but will keep with the faith and sure in time he will find.
I just have a good feel for the place. The other option was Melbourne
as hubby will def. get work there ,but it just seems more gloomy to
me, I may be very wrong . The kids want a pool and Brisbane is the
place for it...........so..........we will have to wait and see.

The JAcksons

Please do keep us all informed , willloveto hear the adventure and
findings

Thanks
Jenny

Hi all,

My husband and I are moving over in May/June. I was born in Brisbane and
came over to the UK in 1998 to work/travel. Ended up meeting my husband
here and I've convinced him to move back there permanently.

We will probably buy around Balmoral/Bulimba/Hawthorne area, although we're
also considering possibly building a house in either The Gap or Samford.
Ideally on acreage.

As I've lived in Brisbane for years (and moved around a lot!!), if you have
any questions on areas, please don't hesitate to ask!

How are everyone's plans going for the actual physical move?

Margot.

We hope to move to the Sunshine Coast towards the end of May.
We were there for five weeks last year to validate our visas and bought a plot of land whilst we were there.
Our new baby is due at the end of July, so at the moment we are looking into the logistics of having the baby delivered out there rather than having to make another migration application for the baby if it were to be born here.
It seem as though lots of Brits are heading for the Brisbane area,
good choice from what we saw!!

Out of interest, are you a British citizen too or do you just have
settled status in the UK.

If it's the latter you'll risk losing it when you move back to
Australia, and you should seriously consider naturalising as a British
citizen first. Since 4 April 2002 this no longer causes loss of
Australian citizenship.

http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk has all the information.

Thankfully, I have a British passport and an Australian passport.

Does Australia ever question an Australian's citizenship if they are out of
the country for a long length of time?

Hi
We`re leaving this Saturday, will have 4 days in Bangkok and arrive in Brisbane on the 23rd. We`ll stay with my husbands parents in Regents Park for a couple of weks until we sort out a rental. I`ve enrolled the children in St Edwards in Daisy Hill so we`ll hopefully find something around that area.

Arrived Brisbane a couple of days ago (after a stay in NW England).

Courier Mail on day of Arrival carried article demonstrating that SE QLD Median House Prices grew by $30,000 between 1993 and 2000 (from $140,000 to $170,000) and grew $70,000 between 2000 and 2002.

So average house price growth in the last couple of years is running eight times greater than that of recent history !

I can't understand how having left Manchester Airport with frosty ice on the ground in mid-winter I still feel cold enough here at dawn on a January day that I'm wearing the wooly pullover. (Very unseasonal)

Australian citizens can live outside Australia as long as they like
and always keep the right to return. It's not like it is with
permanent residents, who can lose PR by staying overseas too long.

The only way you would have lost Australian citizenship is if you
registered or naturalised as a British citizen before 4 April 2002 if
you were over 18 at the time, or if your parents lost Australian
citizenship in the same way as a child. There are resumption
provisions which cater for many former Australians in this position.

If you got British citizenship at birth because your father was born
in the UK, for example, you will not have lost Australian citizenship.

Hi to everyone,

We are just waiting for our 457IE visa..in view of the abolision of this visa at the end of Feb, i'm not sure if applications are taking longer than the usual 6-8 weeks.
My partner and myself have two children..10 and 5. We are looking at setting up a business on the Sunshine Coast. we are looking at a Sub-Way franchise. Does anyone have any exprerience of buying a franchise in Aus?

We are going over on 22nd March to do a reccie .looking at areas etc. We hope to settle around July/August.
I have a sister who lives in Brisbane. She married an Aussie and has lived at Forest Lake for over 9 years.
She loves Brisbane, but feels quite isolated where she lives. She still hasnt managed to make many friends.

I havnt posted many comments on this forum, but have gained a greater insight into many aspects of immigration, both positive and negative.

Thanks and goodluck to everyone.

Hi Louise
As you have a sister living in Australia, presumably with PR - or one
would imagine citizenship after 9 years - did you not consider general
skilled migration rather than the 457ie?
