Hi Kevin and Tracey and Emma,
We have lived in Wellington Point for two and a half years now after
shifting from NZ. This area is fantastic for families and lifestyle. Some of
SE Qld's best beaches are just a ferry trip away from Cleveland, out at
North Stradbroke Island.
I am a real estate saleperson specialising in the Wellington Point and
Birkdale areas, see:
www.ljhooker.com.au/birkdale
For leisure activities in the area check out:
http://www.redlandstourism.com/
Great schools, for example:
http://www.redlands.qld.edu.au
http://www.ormiston.qld.edu.au
Hope these are of some help,
John

Hi Johnny Boy
Thanks for your message - glad to hear that Wellington Point sounds like such a lovely place. Thanks for your links very interesting - those schools were private schools - what are the state schools like in that area - are there any you would particuarly recommend?
We've been looking at the L J Hooker site a lot - for houses in other areas like Ormiston/Birkdale/Cleveland as well. They all look nice areas. Are there any areas we should be avoiding?
It's hard until you get there to know I suppose. Are properties still going up a lot in this area?
Got our place on the market at the moment - hoping to sell asap and get there!!

There are good state schools as well -Wellington Point State Primary School
particularly has a very good name.
As far as areas to avoid goes, generally speaking, the Redlands / Bayside
suburbs are considered "good areas", and whilst you get the odd pocket or
street where there may be, say, government housing with a bit of a rough
element - in the main, the area is fine. Ormiston, Wellington Point and
Cleveland are the most expensive suburbs. Birkdale is getting up there too.
Capalaba and Alexandra Hills are a bit cheaper and further from the water.
I feel prices have slowed down in the last 3 months or so. I personally
don't believe the market has peaked out here on bayside yet, but certainly
prices aren't going up as fast as they were, say 12 months ago.
Thorneside, Birkdale, Wellington Point, Ormiston and Cleveland are served by
a great commuter rail service into Brisbane (average 50 minutes). Buses
travel to and from Redland Bay, Victoria Point, Thornlands, Alexandra Hills
and Capalaba.

Thanks Johnny Boy for your information.
Is there a specific website for L J Hooker in Wellington Point? My husband has to search all Bayside area and can't narrow the search down.
Many thanks

Hi Tracey, we live in Bournemouth but are hoping to go to Adelaide. Doesn't sound like you will be much longer?
We haven't got to our medical stage yet but I have heard from others that they seem to be calling people up earlier than expected! let's hope so.
All the best

Hi Tracey
L J Hooker Birkdale is the local agent that covers Wellington Point.
However, L J Hooker Cleveland and L J Hooker Alexandra Hills occasionally
get listings in our patch as well.
When you get to the homepage of www.ljhooker.com.au you will see in the
centre of the page a field under "Quick Search" where you can type in a
suburb or postcode in which you want to look for properties - type
"Wellington Point", and check "surrounding suburbs", click the Search button
and this will give you the listings of not only Wellington Point, but
Birkdale, Ormiston, Cleveland, Alex Hills and Capalaba as well. (BTW: the
postcode for both Wellington Point and Ormiston is 4160.)

North Stradbroke Island (aka "Straddie" is a great place. Takes about
1 hour to get across if you take the car on the ferry. There is a "water
taxi" that'll make the trip in about 20 minutes I believe (haven't tried
it myself as I always took the car).
Having a car on the island is useful as it is quite large (with mostly
paved roads).
I do have one caveat on Wellington Point/Cleveland. These areas are quite
far from the city (relatively speaking) and people who live out there but
work in the city have a tough time with peak hour traffic. There is a
train station at Cleveland but the trip is still considerable (imho).
Before leaving Aus I lived in St Lucia. I could walk to work in the city
(1 hour), ride my bicycle (25 minutes) or take one of the "CityCat"
ferries (7 minutes). I much prefer this to a long drive. On the odd
occasion I did drive in to the city, it took about 15 minutes in peak hour
traffic.
