Default bonus points (investment)

God help us we have just decided to apply to migrate. Help!!!!!!
does anyone an answer to this question. I am a carpenter joiner but due to age i need bonus points. We can gain these points by investing 100,000 aus dollars for 12 months. This we are willing to do but does anyone know when this investment will be made? To raise this amount of cash we will have to sell our house. Surely the investment will be made on arrival to aus and not before? Ah well heres hoping for an answer and one that meets our needs good luck to all that are applying and thanks

Chris and Andrea,

The investment needs to be made before you get the visa stamped. It is one of the final items along with medical, police clearance, change of circumstance etc.
The details are given in the booklet that you can download from DIMIA website (page 42 - Capital Investment in Australia).

If you are a tradesman (carpenter) you should investigate if a state
or a regional employer might be interested in sponsoring you.

But if you do want to make the investment:

1. You must make the investment before visa grant. Usually at a late
stage of processing.

2. You'll have a month or so to make the investment once asked, not
much more.

3. If you don't want to sell your house before you actually have a
visa, you should start investigating the possibility of getting
approval for an additional mortgage loan to give you access to the
cash to make the investment. As long as you structure it flexibly,
you should be able to repay without penalty once the house is sold.

You may need to talk to a competent financial adviser.

Quite a few migration agents on this board would be willing to offer their professional assistance, I'm sure. And I'm also pretty sure they're worth every penny they charge.

You should download and read the skilled migration booklet 1119 from the DIMIA website http://www.immi.gov.au/

Alternatively, you should consider talking to an experienced registered migration agents. There are, like I mentioned, a few of them roaming around this newsgroup.

hi Chris and Andrea,

why dont u check to see if the state u plan to go to
will sponsor u, we only had 110 points and would really prefer to put that kind of money down on a house,
i phoned a agent, he asked where we were thinking of going
told him melbourne Victoria area
and we couldnt believe our luck when he says
that Victoria had his trade in demand list
you only need 70points or more,

give it a try
and good luck )

Default State Nomination

Yes, that's a good point, lace.

The current "wanted lists" for SA and VIC (the only States that currently have an active State Nomination programme) are available at this website:

Best regards.

We are also in the same boat. The money is due just before the pre grant letter. (about a month or two after the medicals) You also have to leave it in an OZ account for a minimum of 12 months. We do not have a spare £36,000 hanging around without selling something, and did not want to put the house up for sale without definate confirmation that our visas are expected.

We put in for PR ealrly sept 2002. The way we have got around this is by taking out a virgin one account. This way you only pay interest on the £36,000 once you have taken out the money. At this point only, would we consider putting up the house for sale.
If you have equity in your house its a good way around things.

GOOD LUCK

Hi Chris & Andrea
We applied 19 months ago to the london office and have now been
transfered to adelaide.About a month ago our case officer advised us
we had to put the money in for the extra points. We had already
arranged a remortgage with our building society, so the money was
sitting there waiting for us to activate it.
Thanks to others on this and other websites we knew that once asked by
your case officer, you only get 49 days, yes 49 days !!! to deposit
the money in your chosen bond as per the booklet.
We have just recieved notification from the registra's that they have
recieved the original paperwork(you have to get this to them within 14
days of faxing these to them with details of your money details)and
they have sent them back to our case officer in adelaide.
As mentioned previously by others, this is the last step of the visa
once you have passed the medicals and police checks.
Once your case officer recieves certified proof that you have
deposited the dosh
your visa is then approved(hopefully)
If you've got any questions we would be happy to help, just contact us

The timescale also varies, depending on where you are. It's less if
you're physically in Australia.

You can always ask for an extension in particular circumstances.
However, their patience is not infinite - they would be unlikely to
grant sufficient time to actually sell a house, so make you you have
supplementary finance organised that can be drawn down quickly.
