The big yellow envelope ARRIVED!
We applied in April 2002 and I have been following this forum for about a year now. It has been of a great help to read that we are not the only ones waiting AND to be able to see on the austimeline how things in Adelaide were processing, as they don’t tell you anything on the phone.
I have read a few weeks ago that someone got their visa in a brown/yellow envelop, so I asked my husband each they if there is any such envelop in the post. Yesterday we both had a free day from work and saw the lady who brings the post throwing a big dark yellow envelope through the door. My husband said “that must be it, but of course even if you hope each they, you always think it’s probably not our turn yet because we applied in April and for Adelaide that’s just a short wait. But anyway, I asked our 3 year old daughter to bring the envelop hoping she has more luck in bringing the good news and……….well I started shaking when I saw the words “postage paid Australia and than recognized the sticker with my address I had sent to Adelaide (as requested in the acknowledgment letter). And…..than while shaking like that…. I opened it and couldn’t believe the words…..in referring to the visa 136 skilled independent……I am pleases to advise you that on 12 February the decision was taken to grant you those visas…… Well after that there was a lot of kissing, springing and shouting……… It was really unbelievable because we weren’t expecting the grant letter at all, but first a request to deposit the $100.000 as we needed the extra 5 points. We had already sent the medicals and police checks in October (unrequested). I had written in the application that I have a Polytechnic degree in Dutch (one of the community languages) but as in the booklet it said you have to prove this with a University degree and I only had a Polytechnic degree in Economics I wasn’t sure we will get the 5 points. Neither the embassy nor Adelaide did want to assure me of that, so not wanting to risk a negative answer we stated that we also want to invest the money. In the grant letter it said that as I got 5 points for the degree that we didn’t need to invest. I just can’t believe all the luck we had with the process. It all started with the skills assessment. As I have an Economic degree, I wanted to apply for the skills assessment at CPAA (occupation accountant 60 points) but the degree would be tested on both the level as subjects. The second option was the occupation of a company secretary (my last job) assessed by Vetassess for 50 points. I wanted to wait for the answer from CPAA and that if it was negative apply at Vetassess. My husband had a strong feeling we should apply for both at once and than see which ones is positive. So we did. I got a negative answer from CPAA because I hadn’t followed the same subjects Australian accountants do. From Vetassess I got an answer that the assessment will take more than normal because I gained my degree with a part-time study so they had sent it forward to NOOSR. After sending additional information about my study and after 4,5 month wait I got a positive answer from Vetassess in April 2002. With Vetassess I got 50 points for the occupation and the total was the passmark of 110 that applied till 8 May 2002. We sent the application on 26 of April and they received it on 29th. 9 days later the passmark was raised and didn’t apply to us (what a relive that was). If we hadn’t applied for both CPAA and Vetassess at once and if we had sent our application 9 days later all our plans would have been for nothing. Unbelievable but true! We have been living in the Netherlands for 12 years but are born in Serbia. We will go there once more to see our family before we go and the big move to Perth is planned in July. The house is already on sale (we had taken a risk and started selling in January). Good luck al of you waiting. NO WORRIES MATES! |

Gefeliciteerd!!! (=congratulations, for all you non-Dutch speakers out there)
How did you go about applying, did you send your application to the embassy in The Hague, or directly to Adelaide? (I don't know whether The Hague does any processing itself, or whether everything is done in Adelaide now) |
Re: The big yellow envelope ARRIVED!
Hans,
DIMIA applications should be sent to Adelaide for some time now. Not sure though, if it's only Skilled Migration or any migration apps. Some ppl from UK are sending theirs to London? (pls confirm this, you Londoners) --kosio Hans de Visser wrote: > Gefeliciteerd!!! General skilled migration is now dealt with in Adelaide only (for new applications). Business skill migration application for most countries now go direct to Perth, as do most offshore parent visa applications. The majority of other visa applications are still dealt with in local Australian missions, or DIMIA offices in Australia. At least for now. >Some ppl from UK are sending theirs to London? (pls confirm this, you >Londoners) Spouse cases, for example are still dealt with in London. Not the categories above any longer, although some old applications are still being finalised. Re: The big yellow envelope ARRIVED!
Jeremy,
Thanks for the congratulations. We are now both Serbian and Dutch nationals. From what I read I guess in two years we can also apply for the Australian passport. We can start a collection of passports... Regards, Nina Out of interest, are you Dutch nationals now, or Serbian, or both?
