I can't really comment on NZ visa issues, but one significant problem
with that is that finding a skilled job in New Zealand isn't easy even
if you have PR.
What's your back-up plan if you can't find a job, especially as you
appear to plan to burn bridges in the UK.
You may be better trying to get a job offer from NZ first. Try the
usual approaches, including via your professional body. If there is a
real shortage of architects in NZ, this might work.
Architect is a 60 point occupation for Australia, so you might want to
check out whether you can meet the pass mark for Aus too.

Hi
Im a UK architect planning to move with my wife and child to New Zealand
soon.
I just wanted to check the way to do it. I am planning to go over as a UK
national (no visa necessary), get adjusted and ship my stuff over, and then
within six months apply for a work visa and find a new job. Then apply for a
residency visa later on. Would this work assuming I can find a job easily?
If I want to ship stuff over with a view to staying permanently could I do
that without the working visa or will I need a working visa first.
I assume a work visa gives me permission to live in New Zealand and not just
work there!
How long would it take to get a working visa?
Any better way to do this assuming I have to sell my house here first and
sell my furniture etc before moving?

Check out NZQA to see if you need your qualification/s assessed.
I know of one architect who was required to undertake classes/exams
to bring himself to the NZ qualification.

Check the NZ Customs website.
IIRC, no, you can't do this!
As explained elsewhere, when I went to move from California to NZ, the
movers I had quote me, left me info sheets stating I had to provide
evidence of residency before they would pack.

It will give you permission to live and work within NZ for as long as
it is valid.

If you're not in a mad rush (less than 3 months) why don't you apply for Permanent Residency now? Will save angst later on and will increase your chances of finding a job.

Because I cant reach the required 5 points within the pass mark until I get
a job unfortunately. Once I get a job Im well over the pass mark for
residency. So I thought it would be far easier to go there, get a job, and
then apply for residency once Im settled there and working.
