Best way to get out there
 

Advice from all of you well informed people.

My brother is 37 years old - no dependants/wife. No recognised skills/qualifications. He has been offered the choice of 3 jobs in Brisbane. Person offering jobs is an Australian Citizen and is prepared to do anything to help him get out there. He is too old to get out there on a working visa - any ideas would be appreciated.

Could get a 457 temp visa???? Think too old for apprentice route, could go as international student, could retrain in a profession on SOL or MODL list could go on family balance, could marry an Australian citizen. All depends on circumstances etc

RSMS - http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/rsms/index.htm (Has to be regional, plus he needs to be educated to the equivalent of diploma level in Oz. Lots of other criteria, but without specifics you'll have to look at it yourself.)

These are two that spring to mind since he doesn't have a recognised skill.

Would need a whole lot more information to be able to give any more than that. Like what he does for a living, where these

457 visa has a skill list too. There's more flexibility in regional areas, but the bottom line is that skilled migration is difficult or impossible for those who only have semi-skilled or unskilled occupations.

He could come in as an international student, but he would have to study full-time and could only work 20 hours per week during Uni time and 40 hours during holidays. He'd have to pay for it though and then after all that he may not be able to stay etc......If he hasn't got any qualifications to get into Uni he could do an access (bridging) course beforehand. Most Uni's here offer them before progressing to a degree course, however, this is quite a drastic thing for him to undertake and its VERY expensive and then he hasn't got the guarantee that he will be able to stay at the end of it.

Hi there,

Doesn't need to do university, can study MODL at VET/TAFE level, much
more economic than university and depending upon program, potential for
paid internship, plus 20 hours work etc.
