Before I start this isn't for me, (I'm going down the 457 route) it's for my mate who is here now and noticed I had BE open in a tab.

Anyway, he's interested in migrating to Australia from here in the UK on a 175. He used the 'Eligibilty' calculator on the 175 page of the DIAC website and got 115 points. He went ahead anyway and started an eVisa Application - and it says hes got 120 points with the extra 5 for 'Australian educational'.

He studied a Bachelors degree over here and then a year later went over to Sydney Uni for a year to do a Masters degree. However, I thought you were only awarded Australian qualification points if you studied over here for 2-3 years, whereas he only studied for 0.8 of a year (thats how long his course lasted) - so is the eVisa form right in giving him 5 points?

No - look at booklet 6, page 27 - http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/1119.pdf. Needs to be 3 years study if it was a Masters degree.

Thanks for your reply - guess he'll need to find an extra 5 points from somewhere else then!
