Default Assurer backs out

Hi all,

Been trying to find an assurer to support me for my 139 visa. Hopes raised last week when my nephew's friend said he would do it. Well just had an email from him and having considered it, he has changed his mind.

I think what did it was the change on 1st July where Centrelink took over. He says he feels uneasy about being legally obliged to pay social security for someone he hasn't met.

I have explained all the details to him and I think he understands that wouldn't be the case - told him I would send the bond money to him plus a sweetener and he can keep it. Maybe he just does not want to get involved.

It is so annoying because money would never be a problem, but I suppose it's hard trying to convince someone else that.

So now Im stuck - either find another assurer or wait to see if NSW are going to support the SIR then scrape through the pass mark with the capital investment.

Anyone got any other suggestions??

I thought the assurer had to be a relative? Maybe I'm wrong, but I was sure. Maybe some of the experts could advise better

Assuror does not have to be a relative.

I am sorry I was confused, I now know you need a relative and an assurer.

The legal obligations are unchanged as of 1 July, but there is certainly more focus on ensuring that assurers are aware of their obligations.
