to Australia can be obtained by purchasing the current General Skilled
Migration Booklet 6, available on the website or at any DIMIA office.

For applicants who have lodged an application with the ASPC, please note
that generally we do not respond to requests for progress reports. Also,
other than initial acknowledgment that an application has been received,
confirmation of receipt of documentation will not be provided.


Application fees

For the latest information on applications fees, please refer to the
Department's website www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i.htm.

Please be aware that fees for visas relating to the Adelaide Skilled
Processing Centre increased as of Monday 1 July 2002.
Changes are as follows:

Skilled Independant Overseas Student Categories (880 series) is $1745
Graduate Skilled Temporary (497) is $160
Bridging Visa "B" is $65

Skilled Independant Categories (136-139) is $1745
Skill Matching (134) currently has no fees, however fees may apply at a later stage.
English Language Payment $2485

If you are applying under the Skilled - Independent, Skilled - Australian
Sponsored or Skilled - Designated Area Sponsored visa categories, you will
be required to pay the first instalment of your application charge, $1745,
at the time of your application.

If you are applying under the Graduate Skilled Temporary visa category, the
fee is $160.

If you are applying under the New Zealand citizen or any of the Overseas
Students in Australia visa categories, you will be required to pay the
first instalment of your application charge, $1745, at the time of your
application.

Whatever the outcome of your application, this charge is non-refundable,
except if an application is deemed invalid.

When making a payment to the Department for applications lodged with the
Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre, please pay by EFTPOS, credit card, bank
cheque or money order payable to the Department of Immigration and
Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs in Australian dollars ($AUD).

Please note: We do NOT accept Bank Drafts. Please do not pay by cash or
personal cheque.

You can write all of your credit card details on the application form or on
a separate letter with the following details:
Credit card number,
Expiry date,
Credit card holder's name and
Fee amount (e.g $1745 for an offshore application).


Processing Times

The time taken to process your application will depend on whether you are
in Australia or outside Australia, the type of application and supporting
documentation provided. Complete applications (those that have all
necessary supporting documentation included) will generally be processed
faster than incomplete applications. As a guide, current processing times

If you do not submit all the information required to make a valid
application, your application and supporting documents will generally be
returned to you.

Please note that there may be delays of six to eight weeks in processing a
refund of fees paid in relation to an invalid application.

South African Case Load

If your enquiry relates to a 'points test' application lodged in Pretoria
before 01/11/01, you should be aware that this case load has arrived in
Adelaide.

Officers are currently looking at this case load during 2002, however it
may be some time before all cases receive an initial assessment by the
Adelaide office. In order to ensure that any delays are minimised you
should refrain from making general enquiries as this will only have the
effect of increasing processing time frames.
