April 2008 Applicants

Re: April 2008 Applicants
Right now? Selling/giving away/recycling/discarding the stuff that we're not shipping to Oz, letting the house and moving into a smaller place for six months to save money (and force ourselves to downsize our possessions!).
Nope, he hasn't, and I haven't asked. Best method of estimation I know of is to check timelines on BEUpdate.co.uk - currently showing that many people who applied for 175 visas in October have had them granted (and some from November). So that indicates that five or six months isn't beyond the bounds of possibility. The problem now is that the timeline isn't set, which makes planning very tricky; however, I might be able to go over earlier on a temporary visa. That depends on a number of work-related issues...
What about you, tiger - have you picked a date?
Cheers

Interesting that you are renting out the house and not selling - why did you make that choice?

Hi Tiger.....Yep, submitted yesterday, and then celebrated with the In-Laws, been a mad few days ere... Not uploaded doc's yet, a little problem with the website....Grrrrr....
Had a little query about where you put non-dependant step-kids... isn't anywhere to put my oldest two....not migrating and not dependant and not my OH's kids.....Think i can put them on form 80.....though thats not on the check list, but have heard that a number of people do them anyway, just in case.....
You do From 80??
Apart from that, the app.form was ok....
We've talked about what to do with our house, and we are going to rent it out aswell, but only when we have the visa.....
great news on the timeline thing... I don't mind 5/6 months!!
Don't think much of your coffee making..... could die of thirst over here!!!
At this time of night, you could offer me a glass of Red!!

Congrats
Unfortunately my son only received a R = 6 1/2, otherwise he received the same as your OH. That limits his university options.

I hope your son is successful in his bid for a University - maybe he can transfer after a year if he's not happy with the one he gets into ?
I forgot - are you selling or renting out your house ?

Good job, Lymm - getting the medicals started. I don't know anything about those yet, our appointment is for June 21.

I tried to get OH to fill one out but he pointed out it's not on the list of documents and very similar to what I already completed. He was of the mind that he would wait to be asked....Do I need one too? One from each adult or one from the applicant only?

OH said it was difficult (reading) - especially for programmers because they don't infer - it either says it or it doesn't.

OH told him mom tonight. She didn't take it well. He phrased it as a 1 year trial - but if we sell the house - it might not look like that. Can't decide what to do with the house - sell or rent out.
You're up early! (3:15AM here.)

I'm looking at the same timeframe. We've got some work to do too.

The family stuff is hard. I remember telling my mother when I left England back in '87. It never gets easier and you miss family, particularly around the holidays. It'll be a little easier this time as my OH is an only child and unfortunately both OH parents have passed. Hard on my kids though, no grandparents.

If we could have sold, we probably would. But now's about the worst time to try thatwithout dropping the price a ridiculous amount. I don't see a need to do that, now that we've looked into managed letting and done the sums.

Re: April 2008 Applicants
Meme - are they your kids? Or your previous OH's kids? if they're your kids, I think you're supposed to list them in the application. Like you did the parents of your OH. But I don't fall into that category - so you'll have to consult with someone wiser.
My Kids, not OH's.....there was no-where for them to go on the online form.....it was just Parents, Siblings and OH's Children, no mention of Step-Children....
I tried to get OH to fill one out but he pointed out it's not on the list of documents and very similar to what I already completed. He was of the mind that he would wait to be asked....Do I need one too? One from each adult or one from the applicant only?
I think I will have them done, just in case, and will submit them if and when a case officer asks for them.....i've read alot on here that some people need them and others don't.
Did you start a May 2008 thread? If yes, I'll have to look it up!

Re: April 2008 Applicants
Because houses aren't selling. We know how much we'd have to drop the price by to get some interest, and we could live with that, but there's really not a lot happening in the market and where there are sales, gazundering is rife. So we looked into managed letting and we can pretty easily get the house let at a rate that'll cover interest payments, maintenance, etc. Thus it'll be cost-neutral to keep it for a couple of years whilst we rent in Oz (which is our plan). The letting market is, of course, booming because those who have sold are happy to sit on their money and wait.

Re: April 2008 Applicants
Article I found that may move up our processing dates:
6 May, 2008
Australia's federal government says it will set up new centres, and provide more resources, to the immigration department to speed up processing of 457, or skilled migrant, visas.
Our reporter Naomi Woodley reports the Federal Government is accepting most of the recommendations from a review of the 457 visa system.
The immigration department will put extra resources into clearing the current backlog of applications by the end of June.
The government says specialised centres will also be set up in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to process visas from July, and teams will concentrate on regions, industries or projects to address particular shortages.
Employers classified as "low-risk" will be able to have their applications fast-tracked under an accreditation system.
The Federal Opposition is supporting the recommendations, but says many had previously been identified and announced by the Howard government.

Re: April 2008 Applicants
Although I lodged our application early on April, I have only just got round to looking for this thread today.
So hello everyone.
I lodged online on 6th April but had issues with the website and could not upload any documents. I got the acknowledgement e-mail on the 7th but have only got round to sending the documents today as we didn't have any passport photo's (we took our own, I hope that's allowed!).
So, enough about the boring stuff.
I am Charlene, the main applicant as I am an an accountant and it's on the MODL so I've been lucky enough to scrape the 120 points without the need for the scary sounding English test. OH is a recruitment consultant and hates filling in forms so he's really happy all this is going through in my name
We are waiting for the CO before we submit the meds and police checks but I will force OH to fill in the Form 80 and we will submit those before a CO is assigned.
We have decorated , decluttered, made an ebay pile and cleaned the house ready to put it on the market hopefully this week. Then it's fingers crossed time.
We are intially thinking Melbourne but as we have no kids we can pretty much please ourselves, it's just a case opf picking somewhere with job opportunities for both of us with the right lifestyle to match (OH wants beach!).
Goos luck to everyone and let keep this thread going!
Charlene
