Default Applying soon

Ive been reading some posts here and was wondering if someone could explain, I read that a someone had a 457 today, what is a 457? Also someone else said that I'm a September person so i should get my 457 soon also. Does that mean that they applied in September 07 as the posts were posted today?
I really do want to move to Australia and am going through an agency, i'm getting together my ACS documentation. But I was wondering if they come back to me with a 'Sorry we do not need you', are there any other avenues to take. I'm 44 now, 45 next july.

thanks

Hi & welcome to BE!

Yep, some of the September on-line applicants are being processed quite quickly at the moment and are getting their visas through already.

What skills do you have? Could you not go for permanent residency?

If you are using a good agent, they should be able to advise you of all your options. Make sure you find out the pros & cons of each!

Best wishes!

Have you also had a look in the IT section of the profession forums?
Scroll further down the main forum page to find it.

Is your job on MODL?

I'm a nurse, hence can't help with the IT info, but there are loads of peeps in that dept on here.
We are going for 136MODL, applied July, waiting for case officer.

If you have an uncle, you could look at that as another route I think!

I think you should look up http://www.immi.gov.au/immigration.htm firstly.

ACS won't say they don't need you, just whether you do or don't have enough qualifications/experience for the category you've said you're in. Once you've got you're skills assessment then it's a case of is the category you're in on the SOL (or even better the MODL) lists (yes I know SOL list is redundant).

Which agent are you using? Do they specialise in IT (I'll let scrum do her usual pimping of Peter Chiam ).

A 457 is a temporary, employer sponsored visa. I.e. they've already got a job. Once you've got a 457, you can apply for permanent residency but there are hurdles involved.

Have you worked out your points yet, or do you know which category you're applying to ACS under?

I'm currently gathering together my evidence for my own ACS skills assessment, so sort of the same stage as you.
