Default Applying for a 189 visa while in Aus on a WHV

Got a interesting reply on a previous post about going out to Aus on a WHV and seeing the major parts of the country before deciding if it's the right decision to move out of there. I was just wondering if I was to go to Aus on a WHV and say spend the first 12 months exploring and then apply for a second year, while on the second year then focus on getting a 189 skilled independent visa. Just curious has anybody else tried this before and is this a good idea?

Thanks

This is definitely an option if you have the appropriate skilled occupation. Being in Australia, with a job may also open up other visa options, de-ending on where you intend to live.
