Any Railway Signalling jobs in Australia
Hi I am a new member and would like your advise on how to get into Australia on a sponsorship for Railway signalling.
I am currently working for Network Rail in the UK as an Senior Technician Grade 4 leading a team of three in maintenance and installation.
I am not in the process of apply for visas as I simply cannot afford it at the moment so therefore would be looking at sponsorship.
I was just wondering if any of you have gone to australia on sponsorship as an signalling maintenance or installer.
I have registered with some agencies such as Railway People etc.. but the are mainly looking for designers and I have no design experience but have had some phone calls from australia but nothing definate yet.

RMullard,
RailCorp (the client organisation in NSW akin to Network Rail) are currently looking for signalling expertise and also sponsor - try http://www.railcorp.nsw.gov.au/caree...ions_available
The other rail client organisations in eastern oz are:-
Queensland Rail in Queensland http://qrcareers.nga.net.au/bin/fnt_...ist_filter.cfm
Vic Govt Department of Infrastructure in Victoria http://www.doi.vic.gov.au/doi/intern...careers+at+doi
Australian Rail Track corporation (ARTC) who have an involvement with interstate lines across all three eastern states. http://www.artc.com.au/default.aspx?p=1
You may also want to try the bigger Contractors as well such as:-
AbiGroup
Thiess
Baulderstone Hornibrook
Leighton
Barclay Mowlem
Holland
Bovis Lend Lease
or try searching some of the more specialist signalling contractors - most of the UK contractors have representation in Oz so try the ones you will be familiar with from the UK.
The rail sector is certainly booming over there a the moment, you should not have too much trouble finding work.
Good luck

Re: Any Railway Signalling jobs in Australia
Hi,
I have looked at the companies and website, but unfortunately I cannot find anything for signal maintenance and installation jobs.
As previously stated I don't have Design Experience or have visas as some vacancies require residency and I am looking for Sponsorship in order to move to Australia.
Oh well, thanks for your replies and help, I guess I will just have to keep looking.
If you know of any companies or agencies that I could send my CV to then please get in touch.
Thanks again.

RMullard,
I would just expect the same questions as you would being interviewed in the UK. The only thing worth bearing in mind is that they have different gauges in different states, however this should not impact upon signalling.
All the best with the interview.

Re: Any Railway Signalling jobs in Australia
Hello Rich,
I see you have already had a few responses regarding the jobs in oz, so I thought I would post my 2p worth.
I am in the same boat as you. I work for NR at a T.O and have done so for the past 17 years. I have just had my visas granted and have gained a job with the PTA in Perth. It seems that WA is the only state that require ALL workers in the electrical business to be licensed as a general electrician.
I am going out on a 2year 457 visa, although I am going out as a trainee tech, once I have passed the A grade license i will become a tech and my salary wil increase by 15%. I have a mate that went out to work for Ansaldo last year and he is on more money but he has to go out on "new works" type jobs and can spend up to 2 weeks away from home. Another mate is due to move out to Sydney early next year with ARTC but he seems to be based out in the country. With PTA you are based in perth metro and work days and only nights when on an engineering job. They give you a company vehicle and will pay for you to go through college to obtain the electrical workers license.
We are due to fly out in december but if you have any questions then look me up on the NR address book. Simon Brown Barnham S&t and i'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Best of luck

I've just had my pre employment med last week, all I have to do now is sell the house! Fingers crossed I'll be away from the harmonisation bull sh1t and living it up in sunny Perth.
So I take it you are looking at NSW for work.
Good luck rich

Hi simon,
Have had your job offer and have you done your TRA? If so did you get your job offer after the pre-employment meds?
Yes it is in NSW that we would be moving too, don't know which part yet, but Dubbo has been mentioned, we quite like maitland though.
Good luck with selling your house etc.., think we might rent ours with the house market not moving much these days.

It's all happened in 3 months, very quick. Just get as much evidence as you can from smth entries to IRSE stuff. You should be fine.

I had the job offer at the interview, mads and xrays done, TRA will be sat when in OZ as they are prepared to put me through night school to get the license required. I will have to sit a Trade gap TRA to assess how much training I will need.
