Another 457 Thread. Sorry

Hi All,

I have been looking to move to OZ for a while and while i have read so much infomation on here over the last few weeks my head is in a spin.

I have spoken to a employer in Melbourne this morning and he is keen to sponsor me for a 457. He has agreed that if it all goes through he will help me to get PR. I wouldn't go without this guarantee.
Now i have a few questions.

Does your job have to be on the SOL list to get PR?
For my job i program lighting/building control systems. I can't really match this to any job on the SOL list. I don't really have any further education nvq2 apart but what i do is very specialised. There are only 160 registed engineers to do this in the UK and only 8 in OZ. So as its a rare skill. Will this be taken into account if i apply for PR?

Another question is do you have to pay school fees in Victoria?
Does the LAFHA get included in the package from the employer or is it a tax benefit you automatically recieve if your on a temporary visa?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer any of my questions. I'm sure i will be back later with more questions.

Many Thanks:):)

The normal time to get PR is 2 years, but some employers do it earlier:)

Not everyone gets the LAFHA its something that is decided between you and your employer. ( we r going on a 457 and the company where we will be working does not do it):sneaky:

Sorry for not being that helpful, just giving you the information that I know. The only other thing I would say is make sure what ever you decide to do with regards the the LAFHA make sure its put in your contract.

The answers to the questions on getting a permanent visa are in booklet 5:

Booklet 11 explains the rules for the 457.
