Another 457/Criminal record question

Hello everyone,

My apologies in advance if this has already been covered.

I have the opportunity to pick up some work in Australia which would require a 457 visa.

Unfortunately, I have a conviction for possession of a class A substance (ecstasy) which dates back to November 2005. I was fined and that was the end of it. Haven't been in any bother before or since.

Having read through related posts on this, I'm not too concerned that my visa would be rejected on these grounds from the point of view of Australian immigration.

However, my question is this:

How involved in the visa application process is the sponsoring company? I'm apprehensive that on disclosing the conviction it would affect my prospect of gaining employment.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I'd hate to miss this opportunity due to my own stupidity nine years ago!

Impossible to answer, it depends how this particular company choose to handle the application. But I would think there would be a very strong chance that the HR department will be involved and the employer is going to find out. Your best bet is probably to come clean.
