AITSL - IELTS requirement
Hello All,
Is there any one who has done skills evaluation from AITSL recently. Can you clarify on the below
Is IELTS score mandatory to apply for skills evaluation
Is there any minimum IELTS score required in order to qualify through AITSL
Is it easy to get skills evaluated from them
How is the current job situation for secondary teachers focusing on science subjects (Biology, Chemistry etc)

- Yes , 7.0 for both Reading and Writing; and 8.0 for both Speaking and Listening.

- I'll leave that to someone more expert in teaching jobs

The IELTS is difficult. Do not imagine that simply being a native speaker is enough to get a high score. Try a few tests yourself and if necessary get some tuition from an experienced teacher.

IELTS is not required for an AITSL skills assessment, provided you have the equivalent of four years of full-time university study in certain English-speaking countries including the Republic of Ireland. Most secondary teachers who trained in Ireland, the UK, the US etc will meet that requirement.
AITSL is not in any way a formality, but if you meet criteria you won't have issues. However close-but-not-meeting doesn't count, it's a do you or don't you thing, there is zero wiggle room. If your supervised practise lasted 44 days instead of 45 days, for instance, that will result in a negative assessment.
Though the job market for teachers has improved somewhat, it is still a difficult market and it is exceedingly unlikely that you will be able to win a position from overseas, especially at a school in one of the capital cities.
Bear in mind a positive assessment from AITSL does not allow you to teach in Australia, and it is not a system of teacher registration. The positive assessment just means you can enter the EoI pool under the secondary teacher pathway. You will still need to be registered in the state/territory you intend to teach in, and that is a completely different process that is independent of AITSL.

Thanks All. So life is difficult with AITSL assessment if you are from non english speaking country. So all the following needs to be done
Clear IELTS with the score required
Get AITSL assessment after clearing IELTS
Then later on register with state/territory
After doing above you qualify to apply for jobs.

All of the states/territories (and New Zealand), with the exception of New South Wales, have mutual recognition - meaning you could, say, get registered in Queensland and then use that as the basis to get registered in Victoria. New South Wales has a very different process.

No, life is not difficult with AITSL. It is a lot of paperwork, it is expensive, as you need a lot of translations of all your documents, if they were not originally issued in English and it takes time... But the good thing is, once you have all your paperwork ready you can use them for your registration as well. I needed more or less the same things for skills assessment and later on for registration, so the costs of translations were split on 2 positions. Finding a job was a much more difficult thing. Skills assessment and registration took time and money but job applications were very difficult as a overseas qualified teacher.
