Ain't no stoppin us now!!!!!

Whoooo-Hoooooo,

We finally did it, bought our one way tickets to Sydney last night, what a feeling. We leave at the end of March, I did'nt think the day would ever come, now it can't come fast enough. Can't wait to hand in my notice to work.

I am going to enjoy my last frozen Christmas in Bonnie Scotland (not forgetting Hogmany) then into the great unknown. Australia here we come!!!!

Hang in there you guys that are still waiting, it wasn't that long ago we were in the same boat. Good Luck

Well done Shamer and many congratulations. We shall stay and freeze in Scotland a bit longer!
I guess you will have so much stuff to do that the time will fly until March. Best of luck.

I'll bet you're not! I haven't even told my folks we've applied yet- I feel like we're stealing the grandkids. Dreading telling them!

This is a song that I can't get out my head by a guy called Eric Bogle who left his mammy to go to Australia in the fifties, and I have visions of it being like this.

Leaving Nancy
Eric Bogle

In comes the train and the whole platform shakes
It stops with a shudder and a screaming of brakes
The parting has come and my weary soul aches
I'm leaving my Nancy, oh

But you stand there so calmly determinedly gay
You talk of the weather and events of the day
And your eyes tell me all that your tongue doesn't say
Goodbye my Nancy, oh

And come a little closer
Put your head upon my shoulder
And let me hold you one last time
Before the whistle blows

My suitcase is lifted and stowed on the train
And a thousand regrets whirl around in my brain
The ache in my heart is a black sea of pain
I'm leaving my Nancy, oh

But you stand there beside me so lovely to see
The grip of your hand is an unspoken plea
You're not fooling yourself and you're not fooling me
Goodbye my Nancy, oh

And come a little closer
Put your head upon my shoulder
And let me hold you one last time
Before the whistle blows

But our time has run out and the whistle has blown
Here I must leave you standing alone
We had so little time and now the time's gone
Goodbye my Nancy, oh

And as the train starts gently to roll
And as I lean out to wave and to call
I see the first tears trickle and fall
Goodbye my Nancy, oh

And come a little closer
Put your head upon my shoulder
And let me hold you one last time
Before the whistle blows
And let me hold you one last time
Before the whistle blows

We are leaving Edinburgh for Sydney in January. Where are you just now and
where are you heading for? Not sure how we are going to cope with 40c and
100% humidity though. May take us a while to lose that Scottish blue tinge
from our skin.

Have fun

You'll find Sydney hot in January but it won't be that hot, at least
not with 100% humidity :)

If you're looking for somewhere to live, there's often a big
temperature difference between the city/coast and the western suburbs
due to sea breezes. Normally it's about 5-6C but can be more -
yesterday it was 27 on the coast but 41 at Richmond (far north west
suburbs).

Winter nights are a lot colder in the western suburbs too.

One thing people from the UK need to bear in mind coming to the
Australian summer is the strength of the sun - between 11am and 3pm
(daylight savings time) in summer it's a lot stronger than anything
you ever get even in the south of the UK.

congratulations I live in Perth Scotland and in the process of applying, so my skin is the blue tinge you talk of.

I hope you settle in well and have a great future out there.
