Age limit changes July 2011
Hi, put a thread out earlier about my parents getting permanent residancy at 72 years of age, I am a citizen at 42, but my two sisters are not. Just read that the age limit is increasing to 49 from 45.
I think i will look into sponsoring my sister and husband as they are 47, qualified diesel mechanic and Qualified Australian Trainer.
Then more than 50 percent the children of my parents will be permanent residents, then we may be able to sponsor my parents.
Dunno, sounds like a bit of hope and a process, but will look into it.
Any views, please reply
Cheers

The new points test is here. Unless there is something very unusual about his background, I really think he will struggle to qualify (he needs 65 points).
Best I can do is (via 457 and living in regional Australia), having made some assumptions is:
Age - 0 points
Superior English (would need 8s in IELTS) - 20 points
Australian work experience (if he was prepared to come over on a 457 visa initially) - 5 points
Overseas work experience (8 out of 10 years) - 15 points
Recognised apprenticeship - 10 points
Partner skills (?) - 5 points
Regional Australia sponsorship - 10 points
I don't know what a Qualified Australian Trainer's background would be! Would your sister score higher?
