After getting PR card
hey all
I am new to this place and have a million questions so please be patient and help me answer these
I am doing the skilled migrant process and was wondering if this is correct after getting PR?????
1.Once you get visa you must enter OZ by last entry date???
2.Last entry date is usually 1yr or the date of Med/police expiry
3. Once after the initial entering OZ, you may leave OZ after staying 1 week and can return until expiry date of VISA ???
4. The expiry date of VISA is usually 5yrs
5. What do u have to do when the visa is expiring and u are in OZ
6. You can apply for citizenship after 2yrs of staying in OZ and being a PR.
7. When u apply for OZ citizenship Do u loose ur previous CITIZENSHIP for example U.S.
8. does the OZ citizenship has any oath that says something to the effect that u renonce other citizenships that u have.
9. Also after getting OZ citizenship, if u decide to move to another contry for example Germany can u get the German citizenship and also continue to keep OZ citizenship
I know these are lots of question and if u can help a newbee that would be great....Oh and also reference from OZ official docs would be even better

1. Yes.
2. Visa is valid 1yr from the medicals being OK'ed by DIMIA?
3. Visa is effectively an RRV (Resident Return Visa) and means you can come and go as you want up to the 5 year end-mark. I don't think that there is any statutory period that you must stay for after getting your visa validated.
4&5. Yes and you will need to apply for an RRV at that point which is either 3 month or 5 years (discretionary - 5 years). Also, check out http://ptlabs.topcities.com/faq0.html#rrv005. Apparently, when it expires and whilst you are still in Oz you are OK. It's when you decide to leave that the situation might take on added complications.
6. In essence yes, but I think that you need to have spent 2 years out of the 5 years living as PR in OZ, and with at least 1 year in the previous 2 years. Capiche?
7.Australia allows dual (and more in fact) nationality. Whether your country of origin does is another matter. The UK allows dual nationality for it's citizens (except in some minor instances).
8. Dunno. Sorry.
9. Refer to answer 7.
I hope this helps?

Yes. It's called 'first entry date' - it can be a holiday if you're not
ready to move, but you *must* make this first entry.

Usually 1 year after the earliest of medical and police checks. But
this is not always the case - many people's medicals are only valid for
6 months (very common if from outside the Western world) and if this
applies, you'll have less time to make your first entry.

Unless you want to make things really complex, you need to clock up 2
years in Australia in the first 5 years. If you do the math, you'll see
you need to make the move proper within 3 years of visa grant
Visa does expire after 5 years - after that it's useless to re-enter
Australia

If you're in Australia you will be allowed to stay. But without a
Resident Return Visa, you will not be allowed to leave for any reason
(and keep your PR) - not even for a short holiday in New Zealand.

Yes, although you need to be a PR for all of the 2 years.

Depends on the country. You don't lose US citizenship:
http://www.richw.org/dualcit/
Other countries citizenships that *won't* be lost include UK (British
citizen), Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden, Malta, France, Italy and
Finland.
South Africans need to get permission in advance, although this can
usually be obtained.
Other countries, like Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Singapore will
generally revoke the citizenship of their nationals who take Australian
citizenship.

No. Even if it did have, it would generally be ignored by the other
country.

Are you trying to 'collect' citizenships or something?
Australia won't care if a naturalised citizen becomes a citizen
somewhere else. But Germany is a bad example as you need to live there
for about eight years and you will normally be expected to provide
*proof* you are losing or renouncing any other nationalities you have.
If you subsequently naturalise in a country like Canada, Britain, the US
or New Zealand, you will keep your Australian citizenship.

None of these exceptions affect British *citizenship*.
British protected persons and some British subjects do lose their
nationality if they acquire another, some British Overseas citizens will
find their eligibility to register as a British citizen affected, and
some British overseas territories citizens may find their belonger
status in their home territory affected, but none of these issues should
concern people from the UK.
To know what your British status is, just check your passport - the
nationality on the ID page should say 'British citizen' - if so, there
is no nationality issue to worry about.
PS to the original poster - there is no such thing as a 'PR Card' in
Australia. That's something the Canadians have, different country.
