ACS - Falling at the first hurdle

ACS - Falling at the first hurdle
I spoke to my boss about giving me a reference before we signed with the agent, now it has come to the crunch and I dont think he will. He has been promising me the reference for nearly two months now and I'm starting to think he wont do it. :curse:
The agent gave me some template references for me to write it myself and ask my boss to sign that but I'm not getting anywhere with it. The templates he sent me are way above my level of iT and I just dont think I have the skills they are looking for.
I had hoped that when we started the Emigration process that it would be based on my hubby as he is a senior manager with a very big company, but the Agent thought it would be much better using me.
I'm feeling really low about the whole thing as I dint think it would fall flat at the first hurdle.

Re: ACS - Falling at the first hurdle
Have you thought about sending your cv through to your agent & asking him to double-check your skills & experience?
We're just starting out & my partner is just applying to have his skills checked through the ACS, so I imagine we've got these horrors to look forward to. I'm just dreading all the paperwork landing on the doormat.
Best of luck!

Re: ACS - Falling at the first hurdle
I had the same bad feeling when I first saw the RPL application. However, its only when you sit down and think about everything that you've done that you realise you have alot more experience than you think. I thought it was silly to emphasis the importance of ghosting a machine. Yet, it all counts. Write down everything.
Also, dont rely on your agent to analyze your application for you. Some of them say they are specialists in IT rpl applications yet dont even know what a server cluster is. They are as much help as your granny sometimes.

Re: ACS - Falling at the first hurdle
I don't know if it will help you but we used Peter Chiam of www.ptlabs.com.au for our ACS/RPL application and he is fantastic.
He really does specialise in IT submissions and knows what he's talking about. He was and is fantastic as our agent both through the ACS stage and the visa stage.
He posts on here as well and is MARA registered. Why not contact him and just see if he can help or advise you in some way.
I really hope it all works out for you.

I think you ought to go back to your agent and explain the problem - if it's that your employer won't sign, there are options for dealing with that. And if the employer won't sign because it isn't true well you can't blame him.

Re: ACS - Falling at the first hurdle
I have sat down tonight and tried to write my own reference to give to my boss. I am not sure if its good enough to pass ACS so have sent it to my agent for their advice first before giving it to my boss. I'm hoping that his delay in writing the reference is because of time constraints and not that he doesnt want to do it - though it does feel that way.
Anyway fingers crossed and Nige you are right, once you write it down it does look a lot more. I just hope it's what they are looking for.
Also, how many references did you all get? I was hoping to get away with one that covers me for 6 years, but my Agent wants 2.
Thanks
