Thanks Shiva and YingYing, I am now in the process of preparing a detailed declaration form detailing all the tasks that she does at work.

No, that's not correct. ICAA do the skills assessment based on the qualification. So, if bannie's wife is a qualified chartered accountant (for example), the ICAA will give her a skills assessment as "accountant".

But DIAC base their assessment on the "duties" of an accountant per the ASIC code. If bannie's wife's duties do not match those of the ASIC code (and the way bannie described them, they do not match), there is a high risk that DIAC will say, she does not work as an "accountant".

i fully agree. even CPAA gives an assessment based on academic qualifications (bachelor's or post-graduate degree, etc.), and not necessarily on work experience. i had not worked as an accountant in 2006 or before that, however i was given a positive assessment by CPAA in that year. at the time, even with CPAA's positive assessment, still i didn't meet DIAC's criteria.

• Analysing the data provided by the client and derives benefit for the clients by finding opportunities.
• Analysing and reviewing the Trial Balance and Balance Sheet of clients and finding out opportunities if any.

•Calculating depreciation for the fixed assets of clients in accordance with IRS Standards and codes.
•Drafting Memorandum's containing description of Work performed for Clients.
•Complying with client requirements and analyzing the data as per client requirements.

Do these duties match up to what accountants generally do? I am worried because her designation doesn't contain the word "Accountant", will DIAC accept the above duties equivalent to that of an Accountant?

Thanks,
bannie
Yes, These duties are for Accountants. Don't Worry.

I had NIA assessed my skills as accountant, but I am working as a fund accountant, so I am really worried if my work duties will be passed as accountant by DIAC.

Helloshivahere,
When DIAC accepted your self affidativ, did you have to give any reasons why you didn't had a work reference letter attached to your application, showing your accountant experience? Is it just to select 5 duties in my job that relates to accounting and then make a self affidavit and hope for the best?
Are there any templates for a self affidavit available? (This is new to me so I don't have an idea how it would look like).

Thanks for your help.

Accountant is wide and you can frame the self affidavit more close to the duties of an Accountant in generally from Accounting support to finalisation.

I enclosed the work exp letter but do you think you can fit all the duties of an Accountant in a single page. So that I enclose a self affidavit stating all duties

If you cant find a decent templete let me know I can forward you . PM your email id

Good luck

There are specialities in the Accountant role, such as Finance Analyst or Tax Accountant.

As a general rule, work at a professional level will be ok, but work as a book-keeper or similar level is not.

Hi,
Could you tell me please what was the title of your occupation? Now that I read this topic, I am wondering if DIAC would care for Accounts Payable? Does anyone know where I could find what kind of duties they are looking for?
Thanks.

I already submitted a self recommendation letter but I didn't notarized it. Doesn't really need to be notarized and why does it need to be?

Accounts Payable usually sounds more like a book-keeper or advanced clerical kind of role. But it's always fact-specific, get some professional advice and don't try to be your own consultant on this.

It is better if you get it notarized that way your document will have more credibility.

Yes it needs to be sworn in front of and signed by a solicitor, it isn't a statutory declaration if it isn't.

Thank you all for your promote replies. I am so glad I got to read this topic in time. Even if my job title is Accounts Payable Specialist, my duties are more extended. That is way I made a self affidavit as somebody suggested here, where I stated my duties more detailed than I did in I my self recommendation letter. This time I did notarized it! But do you think I should notarize the recommendation letter which I submitted with my application a month ago, or should I wait for DIAC to ask me to notarized it?
