887 visa who can be main applicant

Me, my wife and son have been residing for last two years in Australia on 496 visa and now it is time for us to apply for 887 visa. My son who came as a dependant with my wife as the main applicant has working full time for last two years in a permanent job. Can he be the main applicant?
