Default 8501 Condition for Visitor Visa

Hi All,

Got Visitor visa for my in-laws but with 8501 Condition. Insurance seems pretty costly here at Australia, Can I use the travel insurance bought from India?

Is there any cheaper Insurance available here?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

As long as they have cover for the duration of the stay I don't think it matters if they bought it in India

If your inlaws are visiting they should get travel insuance from their own country, which covers them for the journey to Australia, the time they spend here, and the journey home again.

Most Australian companies provide travel insurance only for Australian residents.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Would that be compliant to 8501 condition?

Thanks

But I found insurance for overseas visitor visa in most of the australian companies.

Then why are you bothering to ask? Just get your parents to buy a policy from wherever they like. Just ensure that it covers them for travel to here and home again and for all possible medical bills.
Maybe you could share the names of the Aus compnaes to help future posters.

84501 requires The holder must maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance while the holder is in Australia. We can't see the policy details so how would we know?

I am looking for affordable one. You can get Overseas visitor visa from HBF, Medibank,... and most cheapest as per my analysis is Australian Unity.

Getting it from India would cost me at $500 approx per year whereas in Australia it would be $250 per week.

So, I just dropped in my query whether the TRAVEL INSURANCE BOUGHT FROM INDIA WOULD BE COMPLIANT TO VISA CONDITION 8501.

Thanks

Without knowing what the travel insurance policy from India says, we can't tell you!
No-one here knows what policy you are looking at. No-one here knows what that policy says about medical cover.

Hi Vibu,

I cant see travel insurance meeting the 8501 health insurance requirement. You need a DIAC approved overseas visitor health insurance.

I made a list of providers http://www.457visacompared.com.au/45...lth-insurance/ but generally IMAN, BUPA & Medibank are the main insurers to consider as you will see from the chart.

DiD DIBP not ask for proof of insurance before issuing the visas?
Mght also be worthwhile finding a forum which deals more with India - being a mainly British forum we do not get questions like this more than every year or so.
