489 Visa (Family Sponsored)
Hi - had a quick search to see if raised before but couldn't see anything
I am looking into the 489 visa via family sponsorship for the 10 points. This is the one where you need to work and live in a regional area etc etc. I have releatives who are in the designated area and so can see this as an option however, the piece of information I am missing is whether having an occupation on the skills list is crucial to the application. I do not have an occupation on the skills list but I satisfy all other criteria to achieve 65 points using the link below (hons degree saved my bacon) https://www.acacia-au.com/skilled-mi...oints-test.php Where you select th visa type at the top of the page, the 189/190 visas stipulate the skills list but NOT for the 489, Can anyone inform me if I should consider applying for this visa based on the information I hav provided? Thanks a lot! |

Always use official government sources for your information, rather than a commercial web site. https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/489-
This then confirms an occupation on the medium to long term skills list is required, I.e game over... In light of this, what would be the benefit to the family sponsored skilled regional 489 visa if one could just chose the 189 pathway? |

The information in DIBP publications, including their websites, is simplistic, often misleading and sometimes quite wrong.
You obviously have a bee in your bonnet about DIBP. May I suggest that you take this up with them instead of making sweeping, unsubstantiated statements on a public migration board. |

If you'd like to read back over some of your posts that have required correcting, you'll see that your advice is often simplistic, often misleading and sometimes quite wrong.

If you have difficulty understanding DIBP's information, then consulting a registered MARA agent would be advisable. Completely ignoring official information is not the way to go. Oh, and please stop posting in bold letters. It doesn't make your post any more accurate. ETA: I've just noticed that you're a RMA. You should really know better. |
