Default 47 year old?

Can anyone help on this one?

Friend of mine in the UK wants to migrate to Oz but as the title says she's 47.

She will be a qualified teacher next year and still be 47.

I've been told she could make it on a 4 year visa (?) if she was sponsored, is this true?

Any other suggestions/ recommendations greatly received.

Cheers.

You can't emigrate on a 4 year visa, for obvious reasons. It just means a one-way trip home once the sponsorship is over.

Why does she not consider employer sponsored permanent residence? The age limit can be waived for over 45s. Download booklet 5 from the DIMA site.

She still needs to find a school keen to hire her and sponsor - regional Australia will probably give rise to more opportunities.

Employer sponsored PR? Does that mean being sponsored by an organisation in Oz?

Yes. Any organisation that employs people.

I have just arrived in Aus as a 46 year old planning officer through employer sponsorship, so yes it can happen, but takes a lot of hard work and determination. There is a shortage of teachers in Aus, so you may find that there are specialist recruitment agencies who can help place your friend in a job in Aus(also try looking at the MODL list on the DIMA website and the state migration websites). If the employer is willing to support her application for permanent residency, after a certain time period(can't pin anyone down on how long this is) she would be able to apply. I would suggest googling for recruitment agencies and sending off a cv. I used this company - www.ipa.com.au - the international team. Might be worth a try with them , but I am not sure they work in the education market.

Hope your friend succeeds - I am glad I did it, even at my age!
