Default 457ie holders and PR visas

Does anyone know if the 845/846 visas are going to be cancelled, replaced or ongoing. Or are there new categories which will be specific for the progression to PR for 457ie holders?

ie Has the criteria for PR changed? (We don't want to buy a dud business now do we?)

Anyone in the same boat?

Does anyone think it possible that we could be happily working towards current requirements and then the goalposts could move?

Alice,

My understanding is that there are presently no changes anticipated to the 845/846 Established Business visa sub-classes.

From what I can gather with the changes to Business Visas from 01/03/2003 (see also:
http://www.gomatilda.com/news/article.cfm?articleid=247 )

you will be able to apply for permanent residency via an 845/846 visa, or via the new 892 visa (again, details are in this news item).

I dare say there will be more commentary on the new business visas over the next few weeks as agents start discussing the new legislation with DIMIA - I'll be posting more on the Go Matilda site as and when we learn of relevant issues.

Best regards.

The whole business skills system is scheduled to change on 1st March
2003.

In any case, professional advice is a must in this area - it's not
suitable for online forums, because of the complexity and magnitude of
decisions - and if you've not hired a good agent already I suggest you
do so straight away.

I don't agree with this. The 845/846 visas were easy enough to interpret and although the new visa classes may be more complex(?), I think some people will be able to interpret them without the use of migration agents.

I think it's possible to find out the information you need by trawling the web, contacting relevant Australian migration offices, sharing knowledge with other people using forums (such as this one, with it being a migration forum).

Like many others, we've managed to get our 457ies granted without the use of a migration agent. In our research we received a lot of information and support from various areas such as Australian state development offices and this forum. Hopefully we will receive as much support when searching for a suitable business to meet the needs of the permanent resident visas.

Obviously some people will or will not need an agent because of time, inclination, aptitude, stress, etc, etc, but the occasional mere mortal may be able to get by and save a few bob.

Cheers

Hi Alice
You sound more resourceful than most :)

The point I was trying to make is that for many people coming on a
temporary business visa, it's important to have a robust strategy to
qualify for PR right from the beginning (if that's important). And as
it is more complex than general skilled migration, a forum like this
is perhaps less useful.
