Hi, I dont think many other companies provide insurance cover for
"temporary" residents. Atleast I couldnt find any when i went through
what you are trying to do now. I am still with IMAN and stopped
searching for others. Hope this helps.

Cheers

and as to your question of whether you need it.....it is a condition of
dimia now that any person on 457 (incl family i think) has to have
medical insurance for sure.

On the 457, I took insurance with MBF "overseas visitors cover" for one year at a cost of $300/month for the famiy. The employer paid for it.
He was not going to pay initially as he thought Medicare would be sufficient (reciprocal agreement). However, we were not legiblefor the Medicare benefit so he paid!
In summary, if Medicare covers you, I would not think that you need it - esp. if you are paying for yourself. On a 457, as far as I am aware, your sponsor is meant to cover you - that's why mine did albeit reluctantly

Hi

we are on 457 and dont have any private health insurance, we got a medicare card and just use that to go to the doctors, if you go to a doctors that does bulk billing you just show your medicare card and dont have to pay, then you pay for your perscriptions as in UK. You need ambo cover though which is $110 for a years cover for a family or $55 for singles!
