We are hoping to be going to Brisbane on a 457 (OH has interview thurs- fingers crossed)
despite reading many threads - they all contradict each other.. so just to set our minds at rest:
1. how long to process?
2. if approved do we need to validate in oz within a certain timescale?? as OH on 3 months notice and too nervous to resign before approval.
3. can we still use british bank account/loans once there?
4. and finally how comomn are Huntsman spiders around Manly?- I have been watching then from behind a cushion on you tube today?

We have had two 457 visas. The first one took about 4 weeks and the second about 3 weeks. That is from putting everything in. It probably took a few extra weeks to complete the forms and have the chest xray

You dont need to validate, but company would probably expect you to be on a plane as soon as hsi notice was complete

Isuppose you could use a UK visa card or something but it would be a VERY expensive way of living. A lot easier to just open a Australian bank account. The employer will probably be only willing to pay his salary into one anyway.

We lived in Sydney and saw huntsman spiders regularly in trees, but never had one in the flat. They are not poisonous and i actually like them.

So if the interview goes well today, expect to be sat on a plane in 3 months time!

Good luck to your OH for the interview.

457's are usually painless and take only a short time to be processed.

Don't worry about the wildlife, we live on 4 acres and hardly ever see snakes or spiders. We have the house fumigated once a year and that usually keeps most creepy crawlies out.
