re Caroline's post
The two days even included my sponsor having to get set up to sponsor again as they had let their sponsorship status lapse, and we had already had our med's done as part of our (separate) 175 application.
Prior to the lodgement there were, however, 2 weeks while the company's agent in Sydney was getting all the paperwork together and preparing the submissions.

Did you undergo only 1 medical/xray for both 175 and 457 visa apps?

Yep - only 1 set of medicals required. Apparently once the medical centre have your records then you can refer to these in another appliciation

Remember for the visa application to be processed in 48 hours you would need to frontload all xrays, meds if required, etc. Its only feasible to grant that quickly if all the paperwork is in order.
Having said that if the paperwork IS all in order its perfectly possible to grant visas that quickly - happens regularly with spouse visas, after all

As Pollyana says - it is entirely possible but only if meds etc are already done.
We had a 48hr grant pre 1st July so it is definitely do-able post 1st July!

How about Character Checks? How much time does the same take?
I have heard from many that Character Checks conducted by DIAC are the most time consuming part of the entire 457 Visa process.
Kindly share your experiences...

I hadn't noticed the bits about charater checks. What are they? I am told my medicals still stand for my student visa, so that should cut some time out for us.
