457 timelines - anyone been granted recently?
Hi All
Getting really frustrated with the application for a new 457 visa, can't seem to get any answers out of the immigration department with regards to time lines, when a case officer will be allocated and whether they need us to undergo another medical.
We are already in Australia and changing employer.
13/05/09 application for business sponsorship and nomination by business sponsor
After trying to get a TRN number out of immigration, finally get told we have to apply in writing as it can't be done online!
24/06/09 put our application for long stay visa in...
( once this is done get a call from immigration asking why we have put this application in! who knows what that was about)
Can't help think we must have delayed the process by not getting this form in sooner....it seems nothing has been done at all with regards to the companies applications, the new employer has also been contacting the department to try and get progress reports but been unable to get any news from them
2/07/09 Call immigration office to try and get an update...still no case officer assigned to application, still can't get an answer with regards to a new medical!
Really hope something happens soon, all fair and well that it takes time and you have no choice but to wait....but nearly 3 months of no work and the money is running out which is a worry.
Would be great to know if anyone else has had similar issues, got any idea on the time lines
Cheers
Jo

Hi Jo
Our 457 visa (employer nominated like yours) has been approved in 3 days (end of June 09). If you are getting desperate perhaps you would like to contact the immigration consultants we used: Fragomen.
Cheers

Thanks welly-2- oz and tarunrajan.....it's good to get an idea of what situations other people are in!
Well at least we have most of the application forms out of the way so will just have to keep on the blower to see what's happening
Good luck with your moves (lucky for me we are here already so don't have to go through the international move situation again..well lets hope so anyway!)

Re: 457 timelines - anyone been granted recently?
Thanks for your feedback..always good to hear how other people are getting on! We still have not much in the way of news...the company applied for sponsorship approval on the 13th May and this has still not been confirmed....thats nearly two months later...at this stage we are starting to wonder if they will allow the company to sponsor us...
I'm sure once we got over the first hurdle of the company sponsorship application being approved things will move fairly fast..it's all a bit of a worry that we could still be turned down after waiting so long ! Hope something happens soon otherwise we have wasted three months now waiting for something that may not happen, i completely appreciate the rules and regulations in place however being out of work for three months is a major strain, just glad we had a little it in the way of savings to get us this far...our situation in itself is a warning to people coming over to oz to ensure they do have some money behind them for any eventuality..
Good luck with your move, from experience try to get more than a month on your contract should they decide to let you go and also something towards relocation of furniture etc in such a situation, it all helps..moving to australia can work out to be quite expensive if things don't go to plan..
