Default 457 then PR to follow

anyone ever had any problems with getting a PR when in-country on a longterm 457? Considering a job offer for Melbourne, where the employer are thus far to sponsor for a 457.

Chuffed to have an offer, etc, but with a family to move (usual BIG commitment with selling the house, upping roots, kids and whathaveyou), concerned about anythign that includes 'Temporary' in the title.

I've discussed with the hiring manage about going for the permanent visa first, but facing the usual timescale issue. Although it has been mentioned in connversation that the company would support an application for PR once over and working, exactly what this would mean has yet to be clarified.

Au$64,000,000 question: anyone ever had PR refused, when in-country working for an Aus employer on a 457?

Hi Barrian,

Yes there are many such cases and if you can do a skills assessment and get them to sponsor you for PR direct, then that's what I'd be doing. That being said, if the company is using a decent agent then there shouldn't be a problem, it's normally the home-made applications which go pear-shaped.

Cheers,

You may want to take a look at the issues discussed in this thread:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488598

Bear in mind that there are cases where someone in the family gets sick after arriving in Australia and this can mean refusal of permanent residence even if the employer carries through on the promise to sponsor. Other situations arise when the job isn't what was promised, employer refuses to sponsor etc.
