Default 457 Sponsors IT QLD

I'm looking for a 457 sponsored IT job in QLD at the moment and it seems like a bit of a struggle. Bank of Queensland were one company that said they just do not sponsor employees as a policy. Are there many companies around that are eligible sponsors? Is it really that hard to become eligible? The main stumbling block I see is that sponsors must have spent 1% of payroll in the last 12 months on training and development of Aussie PR or citizen staff.

Hiya Steve

Hope your well mate...

To be honest, unless you have a specific skill which is missing in OZ, your going to find it very difficult to IT sponsorship.

I have been here for 18 months now and the first couple of months were very hard. I have spoken to people who are far more qualified than myself (over 9 years exp, formal quals and so on ) and some of them ended up going back to the UK, and i mean very clever guys with years and years exp in the IT field).

For every job (and this is true) you are looking at around 10-30 people applying for the same post. As for IT agencies, keep away, 90% of the jobs are not real and they just piss you about.

I would honestly say that OZ is overloaded with IT pros, def in WA area. I have just got my dream job last week (applications developer) after being stuck in a role that was well beneath my skills and exp and believe me, it took over 12 months to get.

As i mentioned, if you have a specific skill that is missing over here, plough on and keep at them for the break, if not and your like the rest of us IT plebs then i would look at a different route and then apply for roles when your here.

Good luck mate

Dale

I'm currently sponsored and working in Sydney. I'm looking to get transferred. My skillset is quite specialised but not in demand in QLD at the moment so I'm having to look at transferring my skillset to other areas. I think I've done some very good interviews but I'm wondering how many businesses would meet the 1% of payroll training budget requirement.
