Smile 457 questions

Hi all, if we get offered jobs on 457 does the employer deal with the visa for us? And between to application for 457 and the actual visa being issued what if you for example got another job elsewhere. Are you contractually obligated? Do you generally sign a pre agreement contract or the full contract dep on gaining 457 status. Thinking from both a employees and employer status....can you safeguard your position if you gave notice on your current job and it fell through or they changed their mind, and what if you did after the process was started...

any ideas/experience anyone?

when we were sponsored the company sorted out the visa for us thru a solicitor but we had to pay for the medicals etc, flights etc. Companies vary with their policies tho so with reference to backing out etc if need be would be different from company to company.

If you get a job on a 457 the employer gets a nomination number for you and you then apply for the visa, employer may or may not cover the costs, this is for you to negotiate.
If you got another job you are not contractually bound to the original employer (unless you signed a contract obviously!) but bear in mind the new employer then has to be your sponsor for a new visa application, the original 457 application is only relevent for the first job........hope that makes sense.
Some other things to consider on a 457... 457 FAQs

Hi,
Take a look at the following DIAC booklet 11

http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/1154.pdf

This should outline the process and it's different stages.

Cheers

Dom
