Default 457 to PR (already in Australia)

I am asking on behalf of a friend of mine who is here with her husband an engineer who is 49.

They have been here since january on a 457, can anyone tell me how long he has to wait before he can apply for PR and will his age go against him when trying to gain his PR.

They have an older son who is 21 who is here on their 457 visa can he get his PR with them, he is on a gap year from uni in Glasgow and will be returning I think to complete his time there, can he be added to the PR application, I think/believe he will have to prove dependency.

can anyone clarify their position please.

Is his employer willing to sponsor? Has he got his skill assessment? And where in Australia is he working?

Recommended to look at booklet 5 for permanent visa options. His age makes it more difficult but not impossible - however, it will get harder if he waits until after age 50.

That was pretty much my exact situation Kaye including an older dependant son.

Give me a shout about it if you like.
Off tomorrow for a few days though.
