Default 457... how easy is to move states on one?

Hello, having lived in perth now for 3 months myself and my partner (both nurses on the 457 visa) are thinking of moving from perth to some where a bit more lively. We were just wondering how easy it is to move states on the 457 visa and if we would have to go thru the whole process again?
Any advice would be appreciated!

You can not leave your employer on a 457 visa.

If you leave your job then you have 28 days to leave the country unless you can get another employer to sponsor you....so yes...you have to go through the process again.

Why on earth are you on 457 visas if you are both nurses?

It is pretty easy for nurses to get PR visas so why put up with all the hassle of a 457 visa?

You would have to repeat the whole process again....find a new sponsor and apply for new visa. Why not apply for PR while your in Perth on the 457 and when you get that you do and go whatever you want

It's not that hard - a lot of employers will do thier 457 visas internally anyway. Despite what the migration agents like to claim to justify costs, it's literally minutes of work on-line to make the application if all of the relevant paperwork is to hand.

The hospital in Melbourne cannot "take over" the 457. They will have to sponsor you for a new visa. The 457 is not transferrable, so you will have to go through all the same rigamarole for this visa that you went through for the last one.

Why would you not simply apply for PR? It only takes a few months for it to come through if you are a nurse and then you are not tied to any one employer?

it costs 5000 dollars...
I dont have to pay for my medicals again...
Im not opposed to filling out a few forms and have spoke to other nurses who have moved hospitals and although its a new visa its not quite the same as going through it all again

PR does not cost $5000. You already have your skills assessment if you are registered in the state. The cost for the application is currently $2105 which would include both you and your partner and any dependent children. I would assume you already have police checks and since you are nurses you probably already had full meds for your 457.

Take a read of booklet 6. www.immi.gov.au

It's cheaper to apply for PR than it is to pay the high cost of private medical insurance as a temp for the next year or two.

I can never quite understand why people stay on temp visas when they can apply for PR. I get why it's appealing to come over on a temp (faster, job, money, etc).... but once you're here why on earth would you not apply for PR if you're eligible?
