175 or 176
#16

I have just received my ACS letter back and it accessed me based on 2231-79 but doesnt mention what field. It listed my last 3 jobs including 'Senior System Administrator', Network Engineer, PC Support Technician'. I have also recently completed my IELTS and got scores all above 7.
I was initially intending on applying for 175 Visa but after the changes and new SOL I am not sure what to do. I then looked at 176 Visa but noticed Queensland or WA do not list anything like my profession. I also realise they will be releasing new requirements in a couple months.
I was posting because I would like some advice please. I would ideally prefer the 175 Visa. Can I apply for this even though I am not on the SOL? Would the procedure just take a lot longer if I am not on SOL or would it get rejected? I am happy to wait as understand I would be last in the priority list.

I just want to cross check 1 thing. You said you got 223179 without any specialisation.
I think you need to have a specialisation for SMP or even applying for 176 or 175.
You might have to go ahead with re-assessment and get a 223179 (specialization ).
I am referring to old post which had this clarification in Legacy MODL.
Correct me people if I am wrong.
Here we go with the link
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-in-demand.htm
which states :
Note: If you have a skills assessment which only states the ASCO Code for 'Computer Professional nec 2231-79' or the ANZSCO Code for 'Software adn Applications Programmer nec 261399', you are not eligible to be awarded MODL points.
I am sorry but I think you need to have some specialisation 223179 (something)

regards

Thanks for the helpful advice. The letter from ACS said I have been nominated under ASCO 223179 for general skilled migration but doesnt give me any more info.
Unfortunately, due to the complications of the migration process and costs involved I am not going to proceed any further. ACS want more money so they can sort out their mistakes. I even received my letter and it was dated after July so they should have automatically assigned me an ANZSCO code but they didnt and expect me to give them more money!!
If my partner was fully behind me in the migration then I would proceed but as she isnt I am not going to. It would cost me too much money and I would get paid less and probably have a worse job than what I am doing now.
Even though I have 11yrs IT experience and numerous qualifications, passed around 30 MS exams they will not be getting my skills.

let me get this right then....i applied in June 2009 for 175, then applied for WA SS in feb this year, June WA SS granted, now waiting for new SMP and DIAC to covert 175 to 176.
My question is, do i need to send another application costing another £1,000 approx if my husband skill is on the SMP to we get pushed up to schedule 2 ?????????
Seems to me this whole process is becoming a money maker to DIAC and is hitting us hard in the pockets, whats to say they dont change it again and more money is required
