15% price increase on Visa Charges
Great news to share with everyone on a Friday morning!
We have been advised by our migration consultant that as of July 1st there will be a 15% increase in visa application charges.
Might focus the minds of anyone nearly ready to apply to try and get it through before the end of the month.

Re: 15% price increase on Visa Charges
Hi jothefew
The charges don't apply to all visas. They apply to all skilled migration, business skills and most family visas, but not to tourist and student visas.
This is what DIAC says:
From 1 July 2011, the Government will increase a number of visa application charges by 15 per cent. The changes will help offset the wider costs associated with the operation of the migration and temporary entrant program.
This increase in visa application charges will not apply to: tourist visas; student visas; second instalment investor retirement visas; second instalment contributory parent visas (which are increased in line with health, aged care and social security costs instead of by CPI); and humanitarian protection visas lodged in Australia, which are charged at a rate of $30 and not indexed.
Cheers
Susan

Re: 15% price increase on Visa Charges
Thank you for the clarification Susan.
It's amazing how much extra visas are now costing. We are processing a RSMS at the moment and making it Decision Ready means we've had to do all sorts "just incase" - I think the only way the Department will be able to say No is if they limit the amount of paperwork you can send! We've covered every possible base but it will have cost at least $500 extra.

Hi Jo
Yes, immigrating takes a lot of financial commitment, and on top of the cost of the actual immigration process, you also need to budget for funds to get yourselves established in Australia.
It doesn't help the overall situation that DIAC's 15% fee increase is 5 times the current Australian inflation rate of 3.3333% at present.
Best wishes
