Default WTR from WHV - HELP!!!

Hi Guys

I am looking for someone to offer some advise on a few queries as I am becoming quite confused with the immigration laws and various visa's.

I have been in New Zealand for 4 weeks on a 12 month WHV. I have been offered a 12 month contract with an accredited employer who says that they will do everything possible to help me stay longer. I am looking at the WTR visa but as far as I am aware, you can only apply for this if the contract is for 24 months or longer and the job is paying a minimum of $55,000 pa. I have spoken to their HR department and explained that I would like to stay longer, and my concerns with their initial contract offer and they dont seem concerned.

I am going to speak to Immigration direct at their Auckland office but wanted to ask for any advise from people who have gone through the same process. Would people recommend me accepting the job offer and then maybe trying to negotiate the company increasing my salary or contract length?

I hope this makes sense to people.

Regards

Stu

Stu, you are right, ive just been offered a 2yr+/permanent contract with over the %55k minimum wage. It has to be with an accredited/registered employer.
You will not need to prove your qualification on this wtr visa application duer to the offer from the employer. Inz will accept that the employer will verify that you are qualified for the job.
I would except the job and negotiate with the company, you have nothing to lose.

Gary.

A genuine accredited employer should know the visa´s inside out IMHO...what is their advice/suggestion? Straight work permit?

If you do the 12mth contract do you then qualify for enough points under the SMC?
