Working Holiday Question

Hi,

Quick question about the Working Holiday Visa in NZ.

We are a British Couple (both 30) who are currently travelling round Oz but looking to come to NZ shortly. If we arrive in NZ on our regular passport, so a tourist visa, which is valid for 6 months, if while we are in NZ we apply for a 2 year Working Holiday, would we have to leave and re-enter NZ to get this activated? Or does the Working Holiday Visa just kick in once granted so we don't have to leave and then fly back just to go thru immigration again??

Many thanks!
