Work to residence Visa

:confused:Are there any drawbacks to the Work to residence Visa? Have been told by a recruitment agent that its quicker to get than PR. Would the kids still be entitled to schooling etc. Any advice would be gratefully received.

I think you need to have PR in place before you can send the children to school without them having to get Student Visa's.
When we applied to put our children in at the beginning of this year we had to get verbal confirmation from the Immigration Office to the school that our PR visa's had been approved and we where just waiting on the blue stickers to be put in the passports. We where given 28days to sort the visa's into our passports or they would not of been allowed into school until the visa's could be shown in the passports or we had taken out student visas for the children.

Someone else may come along and say they didn't need to but my understanding is if you do not have PR then you have to get student visas for the children to attend school

Work to Residence Fact Sheet:

WHAT ABOUT MY PARTNER AND DEPENDENT CHILDREN?
Your
partner or dependent children will need to apply for their own visitor,
student or work visa to come to New Zealand with you. They will also need to provide completed
Medical and Chest X-ray Certificates and, if aged 17 and over, police clearances.

From what my case officer told me, each department at the moment is severely backed up, temporary visas for example are taking 6-8 weeks in some cases - also many other areas too. If you look at the outstanding visa applications on immigration.co.nz you can see why!

We got a WTR visa after doing all the medicals, police checks etc in 5 working days from the day I handed the application into NZ House. Yes, the kids get education and healthcare etc on WTR.

when it says partner has to apply for their own work visa does that mean they have to already have a job offer from a employer before they leave??

Re: Work to residence Visa

No. The partner applies for an open work visa under family stream. It's the same form.
The kids apply for student visas.

Moving the thread to the Immy forum guys.

Cheers.
