Work to Residence Permit - too good to be true?

Hi everyone

Ive been told by a Migration Agent that once I get my Honours Degree in Business Studies, I can apply for a work to residence permit and I do not need a skill on the skills list, as a degree will suffice?

He has no reason to lie to me - does any of you have experience or knowledge of this?

To apply for a WTR visa /permit you will need to have a job offer.

Please have a read HERE

Alternatively if you have enough points you could try an application under the SMC policy. If you didn't have a job offer and/or you could not claim to have a skilled occupation, NZIS might approve the application with the proviso that they issue you a WTR instead of straightforward PR. This would be because they might have concerns about the ability to settle and find work. This would allow for entry into the country to find and start work.

To be clear for the OP. Accountant may not be on a skill shortage list right now but it is seen as a skilled occupation by NZIS.
