whv or temp work visa?

Hi, I'm a newbie!
me and my mum have been searching on immigration websites like crazy and we still don't understand it all.
my parents and my brother moved permanently to NZ nearly 4 yrs ago, iv always wanted to join them but at the time i was young, in love and decided to get married, 18 months later my marriage broke down and am now divorced. i was hoping to go over and join my parents but apparently divorced at 22 doesn't count for a dependent child.
my boyfriend now wants to come with me, we have no qualifications, iv always worked with disabled children in education, iv done some care but that doesn't seem to help. we want to go to chch as that is where my parents are, they will put us up.
ultimately we want to make it our permanent home but understand its going to be a long journey, how would we go about it? do we go on holiday first and apply for jobs and get a visa when we have a job offer? do we get a one yr temporary visa and keep renewing or will it be best to have a WHV first? is it even possible to get training in NZ? to maybe secure a job with an accredited employer and get a working to residence visa? or is it a case of waiting and seeing if they open the adult child visa back up?
I'm so scared but willing to take the risk rather than looking back and thinking we missed out.
I really need help, its all driving me mad.
Thanks guys!

Welcome!

Getting a permanent visa will be difficult.

As things stand:
Neither of you have any qualifications so the Skilled migrant category is not an option.
The only other way is the Work to Residence visa. You would have to go under the Talent [accredited employer] stream. This would entail finding a job earning $55K pa and working for an accredited employer. This will be difficult to obtain with no real skills or quals

So, work visas. Job offer first then visa application. You can keep renewing these but there are no guarantees that NZIS will renew them. They do a labour market test if the job is not on either of the skills shortage lists to check whether any NZers are available to do the job/check advertising etc. Work visas do not offer a route to residency and if the plan is to keep renewing these indefinitely then at some point you could find yourself being refused. You would then have to leave NZ. Not a very secure long term option.

Is this what you have been working in up till now?: http://www.careers.govt.nz/jobs/educ.../about-the-job The pay scales are not high enough to get you the required $55K for an accredited employer WTR visa.

Have you or your boyfriend considered training in the UK to get some qualifications and skills that will help you achieve your goal?
I don't know much about training in NZ but would imagine that without residency you will be paying hefty fees. Maybe someone else can give you advice on that.
A WHV is possible but is for temporary work only. It may lead to something more permanent or it may not. Think of it more as an extended holiday with the ability to earn a bit on the way.

The adult child visa may never be resurrected. I wouldn't rely on that happening as a means to get to NZ.

Personally I think the best way would be for you to retrain in the UK, have a look at the shortage lists as to what is in demand [bear in mind your chosen profession may come off the list in the time it takes to train] and work towards coming over. You then have more to offer NZ employers and also a qualification and skills should you decide to stay in the UK or go elsewhere.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Have I missed anything?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Persephone has covered all your options. The key to staying in NZ, is getting that "skilled" job, get a work permit/visa and be able to apply for residency after a couple of years (depending on your points).

As neither of you have any qualifications, you really need to consider studying as a option.

If you really want to take a chance, then take the WHV route, this will get you into the country for a couple of years.

Have a look at the following list, if you get a job that pays $55,000/year and fits one of these categories, then you have a fighting chance.
