When is the best time?

Hi all

Are there any particular times that are best for heading to NZ for a working holiday? Likewise, are there particular times of year which would be better for each island?

Also... :D .. If you were in the position of spotting several jobs in NZ which are the same as your current one in the UK, which are quite specialised, would you consider contacting them with an eye on applying for a different sort of visa, so that the work experience you have right now, would still be current and relevant to the job? I'm just worried if we did the working holiday, our recent work experience would be irrelevant should we decide to apply for PR or WTR in the future..

Thank you :)

Hi,
if you can apply for PR then go for it, why go for a working hol visa when you can have the freedom of PR, that is all your visa issues sorted permanently! If you can't get PR then go for a work visa based on your skill...is it on the short or long term skills list?

Times of year is down to your preference, if you like the sun then come over just before summer and head for the North Island, if you like skiing come over winter time and head for the South.

Re: When is the best time?

Thanks Phil. The skill and qualification I have are for a job on the Australian skills list, but not the NZ one. Whether or not that's a good sign for the future or not I've no idea

I think we're going to aim to head over next June ish, possibly a bit before, to the north island first, then go to the south island later in the year. Although that will no doubt change! :)

I guess we should stick to the working holiday for now. My GF doesn't want to go for any kind of residency until she's been there and knows what to expect. If worst comes to the worst we'll have to come home and train in something useful and look to apply for PR at a later date. Or we could apply for PR or WTR while in NZ I guess. As someone said in a different thread, we could look for perm' jobs while out there :)

Anyway, cheers Phil.. just thinking out loud again!
